NAKED STRENGTH 2018
On 16th June 2018, 27 women put their brave pants on literally and took to the Concorde Catwalk in a powerful show of girl power, unity and strength.
Each of these fabulous women had been affected by cancer and one thing they all had in common was the fact that they all had suffered devastating side-effects of the gruelling treatment.
“I felt giddy for ages after the shoot - I couldn’t believe how we’d embraced our nakedness & had so much fun.”
Louise Wheeler
Some had lost their hair due to chemotherapy, some had undergone radical surgery such as mastectomies, and others having had major surgery in other parts of their bodies including ileostomy. One invisible side-effect of cancer treatment is the loss of self confidence and self esteem, so getting up on a catwalk in front of a packed hanger of over 700 people wearing only swimwear or lingerie certainly takes a lot of guts. Our amazing catwalk featured women living with breast cancer, ovarian cancer, bowel cancer and non-hodgkins lymphoma.
“It has been an absolute privilege to be invited to take part in the calendar alongside such amazingly inspirational people.”
Chris Thompson
For many of of these amazing women, Maggie’s on the Runway was a life affirming moment. Cancer had left both visible and invisible scars and they wanted to show that you could still look attractive and feminine both during and following treatment. Having fallen back in love with their bodies, some of them got together and took off ALL their clothes off this time to produce a very tasteful “calendar girls" style calendar in aid of Maggie’s Manchester with some of our lads joining in for November.
“Exciting & adventurous with a hint of OMGness & pride at how far I've come.”
Jinnett Lunt
The models were all photographed by top Mancunian photographer Pip Rustage and the end result was our Naked Strength calendar in aid of Maggie’s.
